Fall Traditions

My daughter loves to do creative projects. Sewing, drawing, building … or even carving.

Creative projects have defined many of our annual traditions, and in October, that creativity is expressed in a jack-o-lantern.

This year’s jack-o-lantern ended up being a whole camping scene with car, trailer, and tiny pumpkin person. It’s definitely the most elaborate we’ve ever had.

Watching her carve and create was so amazing … especially since we don’t get to see her in action much since she’s all grown up.

What about you? What are your fall traditions? If you don’t have any, what would you like to start?

Set your timer for 5 minutes and get ready to write about it.

What’s for Supper?

One of the hardest things I have to do each day is figure out what to make for supper. (I know … charmed life.)

The problem is that I get stuck in a rut and we keep having the same things over and over. Pasta, burgers, burritos, etc. I seem to have left all creativity behind … or it just takes too much work after a full day of work.

What about you? Do you struggle with menus? Or are you able to come up with exciting creations every day?

Take a few minutes to think about it, then set your timer and ready … set … write!

Success

Today, I heard a quote by Adam Grant. He said that “the most meaningful way to succeed is to help other people succeed.”

I have personally found this to be true in my life. Anytime I help someone else do their job better or encourage them on a path that will improve their life, I feel satisfaction, fulfillment… success in my work.

What do you think? Do you agree? Have you experienced this as well? What does helping others succeed look like to you?

Take a minute or so to think about it, then ready … set … write.

Pizza!!!

I love a good veggie pizza, but I do NOT like pineapple (or any fruit for that matter) on it. I love pineapple, just not on my pizza.

My husband on the other hand loves pineapple on his pizza.

So, we typically end up with a half and half pizza which satisfies both of our taste buds.

What about you? Do you like fruit (in this case pineapple) on your pizza? It seems that people either love it or hate it. Does that sound like you?

What else do you like on your pizza? Or is it possible you don’t like pizza?

Write about it for today’s 5 min free write- or anything else you want to write about.

April Flowers

These are flowers from my garden. Some are in full bloom … Rock cress, phlox, lilac and lobelia … while others are budding, preparing for their time of full beauty.

That makes me think of people with potential just waiting to be developed and discovered. Writing practice is one way to develop your writing potential so that when opportunity comes your way, you will be ready to accept it and “burst into full bloom.”

So for today’s writing practice, consider what you are doing to prepare yourself for upcoming opportunities, then write about it.

Do you ride?

I think I was 6 when I learned to ride a bike. After many wobbly rides, bloody knees, and soothed tears I finally learned. Though I’ve never become the fanatic that some of my friends are, I have done the occasional 50 mile ride…okay, that was long ago.

What about you? When did you learn? Did you take to it like a fish to water? Do you still bike?

Where would you go?

Is there a place you’ve dreamed of? A place you would love to go but have never been able to for one reason or another?

If money (and the pandemic, war, etc.) were no object, where would you go?

If you want to share in the comments, I’d love to hear about your dream location.

Happy writing!
